Nostalgia for Old Good Days

English POETRY

Arjun Ghimire, Lisbon, Portugal

Unlike a glacier’s motion,

Life rushes in a rocket’s fashion,

Good days never cease to exist,

Cats and dogs have delicious food not to resist.

Safe havens shelter bats and owl,

Plethora of forests for wolves, and hyenas to thrall,

Wide and smooth roads greet you to ply

Blessed with majestic and panoramic landscape to fly.

High-speed bullet train and car,

Supersonic aeroplanes carry them from far,

Thriving public institutions,

Well-planned cities and public amenities,

Allure everyone’s attention and intuition.

Well-guarded border,

Meticulously maintained law and order,

Youths adore to recite patriotic song,

Wishing for the nation’s prosperity for long.

Cities boast of ample of theatres and galleries,

To showcase the stories of prides and valeries.

Dramas and live performances steal people’s sleep,

By dispelling differences to the unity’s keep.

Temples, churches, and monasteries,

Adorn the civilized streets and their soothing trees,

Billboards and street lights illuminate the city,

Prompting its dwellers to mull and become witty.

Great and grandeur abound,

But, they all appear pathetic and futile mound.

In the memory of the good old days,

A lover of Nepal does all praise.

As He goes for a morning walk,

Amidst hopelessness, he does possibilities of talk.

In the nostalgia of good old days, he smiles in delight.

As he wakes up, he finds trapped in foreign shore with reality’s bite.
